Feast of the Guardian Angels and a random picture

I’m knee deep in research for a new short story. This feast for the guardian angels always surprises me, if I paid attention to the Feast of the Archangels, which was four days ago. Conversely, if I miss that feast, this one pops up. This year, both!

Two lovely guardian angel pictures for meditation… The National Gallery of Art does have some engravings that are exquisite, but I found that I wanted color today. Here’s Thomas Cole, American painter of the 1840’s, with a lovely scene. This one is titled The Voyage of Life: Childhood.

The Walters Art Museum in Baltimore, MD, has an image from one of its gorgeous illuminated manuscripts, ca. 1410 (Renaissance). Workshop of the Luçon Master (French, active ca. 1390-1417). I love this image … The grownup lady is addressing her angel.

No guardian angels in this next image but it is so beautiful! A different page of the same missal has a beautiful lady addressing Jesus, in the arms of his Mother, Mary. She is supported by Saint Catherine of Alexandria and Saint John the Apostle. I wish I owned a book this lovely to pray with.

Have a happy weekend!
