Bits and babies…

Lots of people probably saw this article but I still love it. https://www.ewtnnews.com/world/us/how-the-formula-1-pit-stop-has-saved-thousands-of-babies

Basically, around 2001 doctors in neonatal intensive care units in London realized that they were losing babies after surgery to transfer procedures from the operating room to the intensive care unit. After watching a Formula 1 race in Italy they were impressed with the pit crews and their ability to change tires in about 2 seconds. Footage from the hospital was taking to a Formula 1 crew and they were asked to discuss – or something. They studied the footage and pointed out that there was no coordination, poor communication, people’s roles were unclear, and in fact, they really should act like a pit crew.

With precise roles and practiced motion, plus later in Wales, some hand signals to help in communications, hospitals have cut their baby losses in transfers by over 50%. There are several iterations of the story and several ‘generations’ of pit crews who have helped at different times but it is still a lovely bit of cooperation.

Siince we are on the topic of babies here is a compilation of pictures of Pope Leo meeting babies during 2025. Some of the babies are cute and smiley. Some of them are annoyed at life. All are adorable.

State of the writer. My phone won’t transmit pictures to my computer. My short story is consuming my life with research. (Example. Did cars have headlights in 1925?Yes, they actually had high and low beams. What was the phase of the moon on April 21 in 1925? Day of the week? Size of a pecan tree?) I can’t think straight about the longer story until I either give up on the short story or get it done. I can start many stories at the same time. I can only finish them one at a time… Sigh. Baby pictures are more fun.
