I’ve written a fair amount this week but I’ve also had a few projects going…
The potholder loom has been a more interesting project than I expected. That is, I expected to make potholders. I’ve ended up doing a lot of color experimentation because the loops I use have come in packages with highly random amounts of any given color. This had led to some interesting experimentation.

Unfortunately the colors aren’t true on the screen, but the potholder on the right shows fascinating color variation based on which loops came together in each quadrant. One of my Catholic scientists, Michel Chevreul, who lived to be 103 years old and died in 1889, worked on textiles and color illusions among many other topics. (He was generally a chemist.) His work had enormous influence on tapestry weaving of the time.

These two potholders look as if I didn’t know what I was doing and created lumps. But in fact this is a very clever way of weaving a utensil for the microwave. The curvy shape allows a container to be heated and then removed from the microwave with the holder wrapping closely around it. Your bowl of soup steams away without any finger burns. I really love it. https://potholders.piglet.org/

And I have a young friend in Iowa who is about to have her first baby. She doesn’t know the sex and it’s March, so I’m making a hat with a green brim. The white part unfortunately had to be ripped out three or four times while I tried various different yarns to go with the brim. I still have to bind off the last eight stitches.

March 6 is the feast of Saint Colette of Corbie who is a patron for expectant mothers so that’s very appropriate. https://setonshrine.org/seeking-peace-with-saint-colette-and-mother-seton/
Odd week!
