I made Split Pea Soup to celebrate. I used the bone from our Christmas ham, a 16 oz bag of split peas, carefully rinsed, and bought several months ago because around here you can’t buy split peas at Christmas and New Year’s, a chopped onion, some garlic, and eight or nine cups of water. Simmer for an hour or two until the ham falls from the bone. I happen to like pureeing the results, including all the ham bits, but excluding too much fat and gristle. It makes a thick and hearty soup that can be thinned when heated. A little goes a LONG way! The actual recipe calls for extra vegetables like carrots and potatoes to be added. Gilding the lily, in my opinion.
The most beautiful pictures by Daniel Mitsui can be found on his substack. Here’s a link. Click through because his pictures for Epiphany are amazing and different. https://danielmitsui.substack.com/
I’ve started writing the next book though I know I need to fix the links here. Anyway, Happy New Year, still.
